BT has awarded a Swedish firm the second contract to supply kit for its 5G network
BT has awarded a Swedish telecoms group the second major contract to supply kit for its 5G network, as it faces a ban on working with China’s Huawei.
The telecoms giant said Ericsson would supply equipment used in masts and other radio devices in London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff and other major UK cities.
BT awarded the main contract to Finnish telecoms supplier Nokia.
BT is preparing to remove kit from its network that was previously supplied by Huawei, which will be banned from having a presence in the 5G network by the end of 2027. Huawei has denied claims by the US that its equipment could be used by China to spy on the West.
